Let’s get to know each other

Hi there, thanks for checking out comicsforbeginners.com! Hope you find something of value here, whether you’re interested in the craft of writing or drawing, have aspirations to become a professional storyteller or just want to express yourself through the medium of sequential art.

I’m Palle Schmidt, full time freelance artist, writer and comics creator since 1998. I’ve published several graphic novels of my own and I am the artist on the critically acclaimed Thomas Alsop from Boom! Studios. I’ve taught at the Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark and had short guest stays at studios both in Brooklyn, New York and Portland, Oregon. This site is my attempt to collect all my knowledge about visual storytelling, in a way to inspire as many people as possible to overcome their insecurities about making comics.

Most of the content on this site is free, but I’ve put together a premium membership for people who want to take their skills to the next level. The course consist of 10 tutorial videos, over an hour of material designed to help get you from idea to finished comic. Besides the videos, I update the premium section with new content  from time to time – and you only pay once for lifetime access.

If you want to know more about my journey, listen to episode 1 of the Comics for Beginners podcast: “The 3 biggest mistakes of my comics career”.

If you’re a freelancer or considering becoming one, check out my book SOLO – Survival Guide for Creative Freelancers, available on Amazon in ebook and paperback format.

For examples of my own comics, check out the site for my graphic novel The Devil’s Concubine or click through to learn more about Thomas Alsop. I blog at www.palleschmidt.com

So how can I get to know YOU?

Easy! Drop me a line at the contact page – or hit reply on any of the emails you receive on the newsletter.

Thanks again for your interest!

    Hello Palle —

I’m a freelance graphic designer and illustrator working towards becoming an established, professional artist. Currently I work full-time for an area newspaper doing graphic design chores, but I do my freelance work in my spare time.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.

    Sincerely,
    Eric B.~
